Moving Away From Mom & Dad

Moving Away From Mom & Dad

One of the hardest things about growing up is moving away from your parents. I am a graduate student, working on my MBA Degree. I am also blessed to have a really good job. However, Im a 90's baby! Almost everyone I know still lives with their parents. Unlike them, I just moved 800 miles away from my family to pursue my dream. I decided to start this blog and share my experiences with the world. My generation is full of individuals who are afraid to step out of their comfort zone. Sometimes, this fear can limit the opportunities that may be available to us in life. Moving away can be scary, but here are some of the things that I did to help me overcome that fear. 1. I put up historic pictures of African Americans! As an African American male, this motivates me. I like to walk around my apartment and see these pictures. It's a reminder of how far we have come. 2. I chose a complex with a gym. Working out can relieve stress & its something that I can do when I get lonely. 3. I chose a complex with a swimming pool. Swimming is also a good way to exercise & its something that I do when i get lonely or bored. 4. Playing basketball has always been a love of mine. My father recommended that I live in a place that has a basketball court. Whenever Im in a bad mood, I can always go shoot hoops and do something that I enjoy. 5. A really nice kitchen was a must. As a kid, your parents provide every meal for you. Its part of their job! Now that I am grown...I have to make sure that I eat and stay healthy. It seems simple, but its very easy to miss meals or eat unhealthy fast foods when your parents are not there to cook for you.
